Looking for some serious bass action without burning your whole day? This 4-hour freshwater adventure puts you right in the heart of South Florida's canal systems, where Peacock Bass rule the water. Captain Matt knows these canals like the back of his hand, and he's got the kind of local knowledge that makes the difference between a good day and a great day on the water. With light tackle that keeps things exciting and room for up to 3 anglers, this trip delivers consistent action in some of the most productive bass waters around Delray Beach. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting your feet wet, these canals offer the perfect mix of challenge and fun that keeps people coming back.
You'll be fishing South Florida's extensive canal network, where crystal-clear water and structure-rich environments create perfect bass habitat. These aren't your typical lake conditions – canal fishing offers a unique experience with defined edges, varied depths, and plenty of cover where bass love to ambush prey. Captain Matt runs a clean, well-maintained boat equipped with quality light tackle that makes every fight feel electric. The 4-hour timeframe hits that sweet spot where you get plenty of fishing time without feeling rushed, plus it leaves you with energy to explore more of what Delray Beach has to offer. The trip focuses on technique and reading water, so you'll walk away not just with fish stories, but with skills that'll make you a better angler anywhere you cast a line. Morning and afternoon slots are available, each offering different advantages depending on weather patterns and fish behavior.
Light tackle is the name of the game here, and there's good reason for that choice. Peacock Bass are aggressive fighters with serious attitude, and lighter gear lets you feel every head shake and run. Captain Matt has you covered with spinning rods matched to the conditions, plus he'll switch up techniques based on what's working that day. Topwater action can be absolutely explosive when bass are feeding aggressively near the surface – there's nothing quite like watching a Peacock Bass crush a surface lure. Live bait produces consistent results, especially when fish are being finicky about artificials. Fly fishing is also on the menu for those who want to add an extra challenge to their day. The beauty of canal fishing is the variety – you might be casting tight to mangrove edges one minute and working open water the next. Matt reads the conditions and adjusts the approach accordingly, whether that means slowing down with bottom presentations or speeding up with reaction baits when fish are active.
"Great trip with Matt who put us on fish even when the conditions weren't ideal. We caught fish on the fly rod, spinning with top water and live bait too. Would recommend!" - Eric. "We had a terrific time fishing with Captain Matt. Matt is enthusiastic, kind and experienced. The boat and equipment were in excellent condition. Matt was determined that we would have a good time, and we had a very good time!" - Richard Weiner. "We all had such a great time fishing with Captain Matt. We caught a ton of fish! Our son caught the most and Captain Matt was really knowledgeable about each species which my son loved. We will def go out with him again. What a fantastic morning!!!" - Allison.
Peacock Bass are the stars of this show, and for good reason. These South American natives have made themselves right at home in Florida's warm canals, where they've become one of the most sought-after freshwater species in the region. Peacocks are aggressive predators with stunning coloration – bright greens, yellows, and that distinctive eye spot that gives them their name. They're built like linebackers with the attitude to match, often jumping multiple times during a fight and making blistering runs that'll test your drag system. Size-wise, you're looking at fish ranging from schoolie-sized specimens up to chunky 3-4 pound bruisers that'll bend your rod double. The best action typically happens during warmer months when water temperatures stay consistently high, but South Florida's climate means productive fishing pretty much year-round. What makes Peacock Bass so special is their feeding behavior – they hunt in packs and can be incredibly competitive when feeding, leading to multiple hookups and non-stop action. They're also structure-oriented, which makes them perfect for canal fishing where docks, bridges, and vegetation create the kind of ambush points these fish love. Once you hook into a good Peacock, you'll understand why anglers travel from around the world just to experience this fishery.
This half-day adventure delivers everything you want in a guided fishing trip – consistent action, expert instruction, and the kind of local knowledge that only comes from years on the water. Captain Matt's reputation speaks for itself, with anglers regularly praising his ability to find fish even when conditions aren't perfect. The 4-hour format works great for families, visiting anglers, or anyone who wants quality fishing without committing to a full day. South Florida's canal systems offer some of the most reliable Peacock Bass fishing anywhere, and having a guide who knows every productive spot makes all the difference. Whether you're looking to learn new techniques, introduce someone to fishing, or just get your fish on in beautiful surroundings, this trip checks all the boxes. Remember that deposits are non-refundable, so check the Trips & Rates page for current pricing and booking policies. With only 3 spots available per trip, these popular outings fill up quickly, especially during peak season when visiting anglers discover just how good the fishing can be in Delray Beach's backyard waters.

We had the BEST TRIP EVER !!!! Matt is a doll. It had been raining, but hey, it’s Florida! Within minutes the sun was out and we were catching peacock bass in droves. Matt is a lot of fun, very courteous, and gave my grandson THE greatest time! After we had our fill of bass, we caught some beautiful clown knightfish. What a day! Could not have asked for better and his prices are very reasonable. We most definitely want to go back out soon!

These aren't your typical bass - they're actually South American cichlids that were brought to Florida back in '84. What makes them special is those brilliant colors and that signature black "eye spot" on their tail that looks just like a peacock feather. Most run 12-14 inches, but I've seen some real bruisers pushing 20+ inches in our canals. They love the warm, slower-moving waters we have here - especially around bridges, downed trees, and canal intersections where they can ambush baitfish. Unlike largemouth bass, these guys are daytime hunters, so our morning and afternoon trips are perfect timing. What guests love most is their aggressive strike and bulldog fight - they'll absolutely hammer topwater lures and put up a scrappy battle on light tackle. Best action happens March through June and again September through December when they're most active. Here's a local tip: skip the plastic worms entirely. These fish want something flashy - throw a bright spoon or topwater plug near structure and hang on. They can't resist that flash and commotion.
